The phone will run completely on a decentralized ecosystem powering messaging, telephony and data transmission.

Renowned cryptocurrency firm, Pundi X Labs recently at the MWC 2019 unveiled a working prototype of its first blockchain smartphone called XPhone. According to reliable sources, the smartphone, priced at $599 (around Rs. 43,000), features an ‘X’ button which allows users to directly access Decentralized applications (Dapps) on the blockchain mode.

Reports claim that the XPhone also comes with a blockchain-based OS which allows users to send text messages, make calls or even transfer data through a decentralized blockchain network. The phone is deemed to be the world’s first smartphone to run completely on a decentralized ecosystem powering messaging, telephony and data transmission, cite reports.

According to The News Minute reports, the XPhone features a 5.65-inch display and is powered by Qualcomm SnapdragonTM 660 mated with a 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage. For improved optics, the smartphone comes with a 48-megapixel rear camera and a 16-megapixel selfie camera. Furthermore, it is integrated with a fingerprint sensor mounted on the side of the phone and packs a 3,500mAh battery.

Pitt Huang, Co-Founder & CTO, Pundi X, was quoted saying that the current blockchain technology is at a similar stage of development as the internet was in the past two decades. He said that the XPhone will come with a new kind of network and decentralized protocol which, like how the browser was to the internet, will have a long-term effect on blockchain, offering it to millions of users via a smartphone and giving them back control over their data.

Huang further added that as it took decades for the internet to pervade every aspect of human existence and the day that the XPhone is launched is a great day for blockchain, even though the 5G era is only at its initial stage.
